Our Community Center will be teaching our youth a multitude of life skills such as:

  • Budgeting, setting up bank accounts, learning how to save

  • How to set up car, health and life insurance

  • Basic maintenance of a vehicle, tire change, when to change the oil, how to gas up a vehicle

  • How to apply for housing, how to find a place to live within budget in a good area

  • How to set up utilities where they reside, such as gas, electric, and water services

  • How to stay on top of cleanliness within the home

  • How to respectfully advocate for themselves within the Doctors office

  • How to pick up prescriptions and set up appointments

  • How to sew, wash, dry, and fold clothes properly

  • How to set up cell phone service, and assistance on which phone to get based on budgeting

  • How to create a grocery list and find items at the grocery store

  • How to mail thank you cards, sympathy cards, holiday cards, and greeting cards to loved ones

  • How to handle car accidents with police and insurance agency

  • How to mow the lawn and maintain landscaping at your property

  • How to create a resume, apply for a job, and how to dress for the job you deserve

  • How to find the right therapist for them based on their needs

  • How to volunteer within the community

  • How to contact local authorities in case of an emergency

  • How to order a copy of their social security card, get a new drivers license or state ID

  • How to sign up for technical schools, trade schools, community college or a university

  • How to seek help with pregnancy, how to expand insurance coverage, and how to find essential items

  • How to prepare for weather changes with your vehicle and your home

  • How to make a spare house key, or car key

  • How to set up a P.O. Box, change of location with residence, or how to send/receive packages

  • How to organize transportation with car troubles, and who to call with car troubles

  • How to put in your two weeks at a job

  • How to apply for a marriage license

  • How to cook and prepare meals on a budget, for their family, friends, and themselves

  • How to request off time from work with appropriate notice

  • How to protect themselves if travelling alone

The list goes on!!!!! There are so many resources available, and a ton of volunteers waiting to assist with all of the items listed. Once we get our Community Center running we will be creating weekly classes that will go over each of these topics.

On top of all of our great classes, we will also be hosting pick up ball (casual basketball) for our youth, if it takes off we will assign volunteer coaches to teach some basic skills of playing basketball while on a team.

With our community center we will host outdoor movie nights, where you bring a lawn chair, a blanket, and snacks. Where you can sit beside a familiar face and enjoy a movie for the first time, or the hundredth time. We will be serving popcorn, all popcorn sales will go towards the financial needs of the community center.
