Sunshine participants can take the opportunity to volunteer to read at select retirement homes within the area. All children must be accompanied by an adult family member, and sign in at the front desk on the Building A Better Tomorrow volunteer check-in form. Please have your child bring a picture book of their choosing, make sure the topics are appropriate and kid friendly.

Creativity is your best friend with this volunteer opportunity! Make fun and exciting seasonal and holiday cards for the residents of our listed assisted living facilities. We also encourage you all to make birthday cards as well. The more art and unique styling, the better. Do not write any personal information on the cards other than your child’s first name and age. We will have a drop off box at each of the facilities we are connected to, inside by the front desk. We would like to remind your child that they are welcome to bring small paintings as well, as long as its an 8 × 11 sized format. Cards and art will be displayed for the residents to view.

Have a kid who loves to bake? We encourage you to set up a bake sale at your local school, church, or job to help raise money for Meals With Meaning. We value our partnership with Meals With Meaning. It is a 501c3 non profit that gives free and healthy food to the homeless community on Lancaster in Fort Worth, TX. Founder Kirk Oldham organized monthly charity events at the Arlington Life Shelter, where they hire a local chef to prepare delicious meals for the residents free of charge.

Attention animal lovers! We have linked up with a few shelters to allow your kid to connect with pets in need. Your kid has the opportunity to read to them, draw them pictures, bring donations of supplies, help raise money for rescues, walk the pets, sing to them, and much more. Adults and teens are welcome to do this as well.
