Puppy & Kitten Club
We have organized a program for the Sunshine Kids to get involved with volunteering at local animal shelters and rescues in the area. Everytime we have a new partnership for an opportunity with this project, we will add it to the list. Each location has varying hours, so it’s best to check before arriving. We require your child to wear a branded BABT shirt when attending any of these events, to where they realize they are a part of a REAL club. The shirts are located within our online store, all of the proceeds from your purchase go towards funding this volunteer program for events, materials, and our future youth community center.
Inclusion and acknowledgment for our youth is very important. This will help them feel like they have a purpose in life other than athletics, family and school. We would like to remind all participants that you can NOT reach in and touch the animals inside of their cages, and if you would like to pet them, you need to inform a staff member where they can move them to a safe location where the animal can play.
Germs and bacteria are all around us, these pets have been exposed to a lot of new ailments, with being frightened in a new environment that isn't their home, their immune system is weakened. We encourage everyone to use hand sanitizer before and after you leave the facility. For your safety and theirs.
Please scroll to the bottom for links of facilities partnered with BABT through our Puppy & Kitten Club.
Ready to love on some sweet shelter and rescue animals?
What you or your child can do to help:
Encourage the community to spay and neuter pets, and to adopt not shop
Offer the facility more assistance through their personal volunteer program to help clean
Offer to help keep the animals socialized by asking to play with them in safe rooms
Bring blankets to the shelters during cold weather
Visit shelters during fireworks season, the sounds terrify the pets, they need comforting
Draw pictures for the pets to view to make them smile
Sing songs to them
Read books to them (books will be provided)
Gather donations for the shelter or rescue
Fund raise at your school, church, or within neighborhood to donate to support the pets
Walk the dogs with approval of the shelter or rescue staff
Dog kibble/canned food (large breed, small breed, sensitive stomach, senior, puppy)
Cat kibble/canned food (senior, kitten, sensitive stomach, normal)
Kitten milk, kitten bottles for feeding
Puppy milk, puppy bottles for feeding
Cat litter, small litter boxes, newspaper, and cat toys for enrichment
Dog chew toys for high anxiety (nothing that can be ingested by ripping it apart)
Dog treats (no raw hides for safety purposes) for all sizes (small, medium, large, and senior)
What can I donate to the shelter or rescue?
Dog beds, fleece blankets, towels, sheets (avoid anything crochet, or large comforters/quilts)
Dog leashes, collars, or harnesses
Bleach, Fabuloso, Pine Sol, Clorox wipes, disposable gloves, trash bags, paper towels, hand sanitizer
Financial donations (financial donations will be used for a variety of purposes to serve the facility)
Printer paper for the facility to use in the office
Gift cards for appreciation to the employees of the shelter/rescue
Dog crate/Cat crate (please call the facility to see if they need this before purchasing/donating)
We want to remind you all to please NOT purchase any Hartz products for flea baths or medication for the pets involved. This product has had many adverse reactions, and greatly injures pets to the point of seizures/vomiting. Would also like to remind you that when it comes to purchasing food for these facilities, that cheaper isn't always better. If these pets intake low quality food, it strips them from being able to absorb any vitamins and nutrients they need to thrive and find a loving family.
Sign-in Forms & Rewards System
We will have sign in forms at the front of the shelter/rescue for you or your child to sign in. Please be sure to sign in and out, we have a very special rewards program set up for all who participate. There will be a small box with stickers inside, a hole puncher, a punch card, and extra pens to sign the sheet. When you leave, please grab your first punch card, write your name, email and phone number on the back, and punch it once each time you leave ANY of our BABT programs. Your child can take only one sticker per visit. Your child needs their own punch card, you can write your email and phone on the back. Once a child/teen completes their first punch card, they will receive a framed certificate of achievement with their name on it, a special pin, and a bag with goodies inside. Once an adult completes their first 2 full punch cards, they will receive a framed certificate of achievement with their name on it, a special trophy, a gift bag, and will be recognized on our website for being an exemplary community member. Once you have completed each card, write the date completed on the back, photograph and email it to us where we can add you and your contributions to the system. AprilBC.BABT@outlook.com. We want you and your family to be recognized for all that you do.
After an adult completes 2 punch cards, we will still be giving gift bags for your service, and will be giving your kids a pin and a goody bag each time they finish one punch card. We are so excited to meet you! At the end of the year we will have an awards ceremony for whoever has completed the most punch cards, and throw a pizza party for your family.
